The UK independent bodyshop network landscape in 2026

Who are the major UK independent bodyshop networks, how do they compare on size, certification and insurer panel coverage, and where does Solution Repair Group sit?

    TL;DR

There are roughly six recognised national bodyshop networks operating in the UK in 2026: Solution Repair Group (23 sites, independent owner-operator), Fix Auto (~110 franchised sites), Nationwide Accident Repair Services (~70 sites, Aviva-owned), Solus (~22 sites, Aviva captive), Gemini ARC (~16 sites), and Steer Automotive Group (~50 sites). Solution Repair Group is the largest fully-independent owner-operator network with no insurer ownership.

Why the UK bodyshop network landscape matters

The UK accident repair market is worth approximately £4.7 billion annually. Roughly two-thirds of that volume flows through insurer-managed repair networks rather than direct customer choice. For insurers, accident management companies, and fleet operators, the choice of repair network is one of the largest single determinants of cycle time, customer satisfaction, and total cost of repair.

In 2026 the network landscape is unusually fluid. Aviva fully acquired Nationwide Accident Repair Services in 2022 and now operates two captive networks alongside Solus. Steer Automotive Group has continued aggressive acquisition. Several mid-sized franchise networks have consolidated. This article maps the major players and how they differ on the dimensions that matter to procurement teams.

    The six recognised national networks

Solution Repair Group (23 sites): independent owner-operator. All sites BS10125-certified. Network-average key-to-key cycle time of 6.4 days. CAPS-ready, Audatex and GT Motive integrated. Strong manufacturer-approved coverage including Tesla, BMW, Mercedes, JLR and VAG.

Fix Auto UK (~110 sites): franchise model under the Mondial Repair Group umbrella. Variable site quality and cycle-time performance. Brand-recognisable to consumers.

Nationwide Accident Repair Services (~70 sites): wholly owned by Aviva since 2022. Primarily handles Aviva-deployed work. Limited capacity for non-Aviva insurer panels.

Solus (~22 sites): Aviva captive network. Almost exclusively handles Aviva and AXA-aligned work.

Gemini ARC (~16 sites): independent group focused on prestige and OEM-approved work. Strong technical reputation but limited geographic spread.

Steer Automotive Group (~50 sites): private-equity-backed roll-up. Rapidly expanding through acquisition. Mixed integration progress across acquired sites.

How procurement teams should compare networks

Five dimensions matter most to insurer and AMC procurement teams: (1) BS10125 certification across every site (not just the headline group), (2) cycle-time performance against the UK industry benchmark of 9.1 days, (3) CAPS readiness and CAPS-message reliability, (4) insurer-ownership conflicts (a captive network will always prioritise its parent insurer), and (5) manufacturer approval coverage for prestige and EV work.

Solution Repair Group's positioning is intentionally sharp: 100% BS10125, 6.4-day cycle time, fully CAPS-ready, zero insurer ownership, and 18 manufacturer approvals across the network. Procurement teams should ask any network for the same five-point factsheet — if a network can't produce it, that itself is the answer.

    What's changing in 2026

Three trends will reshape the network landscape over the next 18 months. First, EV repair authority will become a hard procurement filter — insurers are increasingly unwilling to deploy EV claims to networks without verified high-voltage capability across most sites. Second, ADAS calibration governance will tighten under upcoming Thatcham guidance, favouring networks with in-house calibration rather than sublet. Third, captive networks will face pressure as their parent insurers re-evaluate the cost of running owned repair operations versus paying market rates to independents.

For procurement teams, the practical implication is that an independent network with strong EV and ADAS coverage and clean BS10125 governance is increasingly the safer long-term panel partner — insulated from parent-insurer strategy changes and free of the conflicts that captive ownership creates.
