Car body repair costs in Cardiff: what your estimate should include

Compare repair scope, paintwork, VAT and collection rather than relying on a single headline price.

    Vehicle body repair and paintwork

Searching for car body repair costs in Cardiff often produces a wide range of figures. A useful estimate explains the work on your actual car, rather than applying a generic price to every dent or scrape. Bumps Accident Repair Centre offers Cardiff drivers photo-based enquiries and free collection and delivery to its Swansea-area workshop. This guide explains the details to compare before you authorise a repair.

Why there is no single price for a scratch or dent

Repair cost depends on the damage depth and location, panel material, access, paint finish and parts involved. A small dent with intact paint may need a different method from a creased panel with broken paint. Damage close to a sensor or mounting point can also change the work. A photo estimate may need revising after inspection or dismantling reveals hidden damage.

    Check the repair scope first

Ask which panels and parts are included and whether the proposal is to repair or replace them. An estimate should be clear enough for you to understand what happens to your car. Two prices are not directly comparable if one includes removal and refitting, paint blending or additional checks and the other does not.

    Labour, parts and paintwork

Ask the team to explain labour, replacement parts and paint or materials charges. Where parts are required, establish which parts are proposed and whether availability affects the completion date. Paint preparation matters as well as the visible final coat; existing corrosion or poor previous repairs can add work.

    VAT and additional work

Confirm whether the amount shown includes VAT and ask for the total payable. Also agree how additional damage will be handled. You should understand any revised scope and cost before extra work is authorised. Keep a copy of the estimate and the work you have agreed.

    Collection and delivery in Cardiff

Bumps provides free collection and delivery for Cardiff repairs. Repair charges are separate. Give your CF postcode, collection address and details of whether the vehicle starts and moves. If it is not driveable, explain this at the enquiry stage so transport arrangements can be agreed.

Repairs take place at Edwards Works, Llandarcy, Neath, SA10 6JY. Bumps does not operate a separate Cardiff workshop. Collection dates, assessment and the expected completion date should be agreed with the team.

    If you are using insurance

Tell Bumps your insurer and claim reference and check what authorisation is needed before work starts. Ask your insurer to confirm your excess and policy terms. Bumps can contribute up to £500 towards the excess on eligible insurance repairs, subject to confirmation for your claim. If your excess is higher than the agreed contribution, a balance may remain payable.

    Your estimate checklist

    • The damaged panels, parts and proposed repair method.
    • Paintwork, removal and refitting and any necessary checks.
    • The total including VAT and any amount you personally owe.
    • How hidden damage and additional work will be agreed.
    • Collection, repair dates and delivery arrangements.
    • Any courtesy vehicle eligibility, availability and insurance conditions.
    • The repair paperwork and any applicable guarantee or aftercare.
