Understand compulsory and voluntary excess, what Bumps’ contribution of up to £500 means, and the questions to ask before an insurance repair.

An insurance repair is easier to arrange when you know who is paying for what. For Cardiff drivers, Bumps Accident Repair Centre provides free collection and delivery and can contribute up to £500 towards the excess on insurance repairs. The contribution is not a promise that every claim will cost you nothing.
What is an insurance excess?
The excess is the amount you are responsible for under your policy when a covered claim is made. Your policy may include both a compulsory excess and a voluntary excess. Check the policy schedule and ask your insurer to confirm the amount that applies to this particular claim.
How does the £500 contribution work?
Ask Bumps to confirm eligibility and the contribution before authorising the repair. If your applicable excess exceeds the agreed contribution, there may still be a balance to pay. For example, an excess of £650 with a confirmed £500 contribution would leave £150. This is an illustration, not a quote or confirmation of cover.
The offer does not determine whether the insurer accepts your claim, alter your policy terms or guarantee that future premiums remain unchanged. Your insurer is the source of information about cover and any no-claims discount implications.
Questions to ask before booking
- What is my total applicable excess?
- Has the insurer authorised the repair and agreed the repairer?
- What excess contribution has Bumps confirmed for my claim?
- Is any remaining amount payable, and when?
- What happens if dismantling reveals additional damage?
- What courtesy-car arrangements apply?
Choosing a repairer
If you would like Bumps to carry out the work, tell your insurer before booking. Ask whether choosing a repairer outside its recommended network affects the excess, courtesy car or other policy benefits. Confirm authorisation rather than assuming the insurer will accept an estimate automatically.
If the accident was not your fault
Do not assume there is no excess simply because another driver appears responsible. The payment arrangements depend on how the claim is handled and whether liability has been accepted. Ask the insurer or claim handler who will pay the repair bill and whether you have any responsibility for costs.
Cardiff collection is free
