Honest 2026 prices for scratch, bumper, dent, respray and alloy work in Basildon, what pushes a quote up, and why the cheapest number is rarely the cheapest job.

Why nobody can price a repair from a text message

Two cars can arrive with identical looking scratches and leave with quotes hundreds of pounds apart. The difference is what sits under the paint: sensors, metallic and pearl finishes, plastic bumper skins that have split rather than scuffed, and panels that are bonded rather than bolted.

What follows are genuine Basildon guide prices for 2026. Every one of them still needs a two minute look at the car before it becomes a firm figure.

    Guide prices

Scratch and scuff, single panel. From around £120 for a SMART repair where the damage sits in the lacquer or top coat. A full panel refinish is usually £220 to £400.

Bumper repair. Scuffed corner from about £150. A cracked bumper that needs plastic welding, filling and a full refinish is typically £280 to £450, and more where parking sensors or a radar bracket are involved.

Dent removal. Paintless dent removal from £80 for a small door ding with the paint intact. Once the paint is broken you are into fill and refinish territory, usually £200 upwards.

Alloy wheel refurbishment. Painted or powder coated wheels from around £75 each. Diamond cut wheels cost more because the face has to be machined on a lathe.

Panel respray. £250 to £500 per panel depending on size, colour and blending into adjacent panels.

Full respray. From roughly £2,500, and considerably more on a large vehicle or a premium three stage colour.

    What pushes the price up

    • Colour. Solid white is straightforward. Three stage pearls and candy reds need more coats, more blending and more skill.
    • ADAS. Cameras and radar behind a windscreen, grille or bumper must be recalibrated after removal. That is a safety requirement, not an upsell.
    • Parts. Genuine manufacturer panels cost more than good quality aftermarket, and lead times on some models are still long.
    • Hidden damage. Bumper brackets, absorbers, headlamp lugs and crash bars are the classic surprises.

Why the cheapest quote often costs more

A price that undercuts everyone usually means one of three things: rattle can paint with no baking, no primer or corrosion treatment, or the ADAS calibration quietly left off the sheet. All three come back to bite you, either as flaking paint within a year or a safety system that no longer sees a cyclist.

Everything that leaves Cranes Close is mixed to your vehicle paint code, baked in an oven and covered by a lifetime paintwork guarantee for as long as you own the car.
