Paint codes, blending, baking and why an invisible repair is a process rather than a product. Panel and full resprays in Basildon with a lifetime guarantee.
Every car has a paint code, usually on a sticker in the door shut, under the bonnet or in the boot well. That code gets you close. It does not get you a match.
Paint fades. A five year old car parked outside in Basildon has taken UV, salt off the estuary and a hundred cycles of jet wash and road grime. The colour on the door today is not the colour that left the factory.
Read the code, then adjust. We mix to the code, then check the mix against a spray out card held against your own panel in daylight, not under a workshop lamp.
Tint the mix. Metallics and pearls change appearance with the angle you look at them, so the mix is tweaked until it matches at every angle.
Blend, do not butt. A good refinisher fades the new colour out into the adjacent panels rather than stopping at the panel edge. Blending is what makes a repair invisible.
Bake it. Paint goes into a heated booth and cures hard. This is the step the cheapest quotes skip, and it is why their work flakes off within a year.
Most cars only need the damaged panel and its neighbours. A full respray makes sense when the lacquer has failed across the car, when there is widespread corrosion, or when you are changing colour.
Guide prices in Basildon: panel refinish £250 to £500, full respray from around £2,500, more for large vehicles and premium three stage colours.
Candy reds, white pearls and some manufacturer greys need a base coat, a translucent mid coat and a lacquer. Get the mid coat thickness wrong by a whisker and the panel reads as the wrong colour. These take longer and cost more for a reason.
Everything we refinish at Cranes Close is covered by a lifetime paintwork guarantee for as long as you own the vehicle. If it lifts, blisters or fades against the panel next to it, bring it back.
